Light at the end of the tunnel

As some of you remember, Jason and I started a large backyard project this spring. To fill you in, last year when I was in the hospital, Jason and I sold our pool . It was a rather large pool (part in ground/part above ground) with a large surrounding deck. After selling the pool, there was a huge mess left, but needless to say, we were too busy at the hospital to do anything about it. With the help of family, we did get the deck torn up and out, but nothing else.

(early spring)

Well, this spring we started the project of clearing all of the deck/pool debris and rock, and putting in a patio with a surrounding garden. We also worked on the back part of the yard where previous owners raised goats and had gravel under the grass (causing only weeds to grow). Well with projects come messes and unexpected projects. For instance, our front yard was torn up to get the bobcat in and out to finish the patio, then our fence was broken by the bobcat, and we found a lot of gravel in other places we didn't expect, so we had to tear up more yard, you get the picture. This project has been VERY trying all summer long and to say that Jason has worked his bottom off is a HUGE understatement. He has been digging out rock, moving 5 grain truck loads of dirt from the front to the back, packing all of the dirt down, re-painting our shed to match our house better, building our fire pit, laying the brick for our garden, tearing out mulch in the front, and replacing it with rock, and the list goes on... Thank goodness we have also had family and friends help out with either the yard, or taking care of Livi and Joey while we have worked.

(Back Garden) (Front Rose Garden)

We are finally starting to see the light at the end of the tunnel. We have the front yard de-graveled and ready to plant seed, the patio is in and the garden is almost finished (I am waiting for two Bloomerang plants (lilac bushes) to be shipped to me), the holes are filled in, and after we spread a layer of rich top soil over the ground, we will be ready to plant seed in the back. This week we added another project, we put landscaping rock around the rose bushes in the front so it matched the back garden and we didn't have to deal with the mulch and ants that it brought.

I cannot wait till next spring and summer when all we have to do is maintain the yard and get the grass to grow in nice and thick. The only project we will have is to repaint the house. We won't know what to do with our free time.
